... Before I sleep

Today I met a lady and I felt WOW!
She is young, beautiful, well traveled and sought,
A speaker, a teacher, a successful professional…
I shook her hand she gave me a hug
We conversed we connected

Then I looked in her eyes and I found something amiss
She was looking for love and
she found it in her work, in her cats,
I know she wants to be held
I know she would love to be loved

As our time drew to a close
We bid adieu
As I write out these lines now
I say a silent prayer softly
Dear God: please send her way her love
So she may love and be loved

I come home and as I open my door
to my messy furniture and trashed floor
I gently tip toe upstairs and thank God
For my beautiful babies resting gently
In their bed on their pillows
And I feel my gratitude
In having the presence of these angels in my life
God’s way of allowing me to know and serve Him
Through them

As I rest my head on my pillow
I ask God to send my friend someone she could come home to
Who might mess up her house but yet keep it warm

I know too that kisses aren’t contracts nor are presents any promises
She taught me that I can tend my soul and grow my own garden
instead of waiting for someone to bring me flowers

Love hurts and heals, Kisses cut and cure
Hugs help and brighten up a day
Softly keeping a memory alive
The thought of a friend is just a heartbeat away…

My chin is up and head high, no more flogging a dead horse
I accept life's victories and its lessons
with the grace of a woman and not the grief of a child
My children are with me and I have a life to live
Miles to travel, mountains to climb, dreams to build, oceans to swim…
...before I sleep.
